Alright, so I finally got everything working properly. Well, maybe a better way to say it is I got an acceptable swr at the radio and at the antenna with the amp operating. By using the very helpful info here I made several adjustments in coax jumpers, air coils and some ferrite here and there...

So if I’m thinking correctly, any mismatch between the amp and radio (for instance anything that’s not exactly 50 ohms) will then only amplify a mismatch beyond the amp such as an antenna that isn’t exactly 50 ohms.

Actually, that does make sense to me a little bit.

I did try another radio (President McKinley), same result.

Is it possible the input tune would/could be different directly from the builder to my setup? I ask because he was showing less than 1w reflect even when driving the amp with a 200w driver? Sorry for all the questions...trying to learn as I go here. I appreciate all the help!

Very interesting...never thought of it that way. So I could/should put a low pass filter between the amp and radio?

6 - hg2879/c transistors. Radio is tuned. But again, I think with the help of all the fine folks here...It’s performing properly as of late last night. Swr between the amp and radio is less than 1.5...swr between the amp and antenna is less than 1.3 with the amp operating. I still plan to ground...

Yes Sir...the problem is between the amp and radio. I’m running a Stryker 955 that shows swr on the radio...It showed 2.8-3 swr with the amp operating. I have three different swr meters that I’ve had inline after the amp and all read great between the amp and antenna. I’ve actually been making...

Low pass on the output side? That would cure issues between the radio and amp? I ask because I don’t have issues between the amp and antenna. (I’m still learning on all this.)

Ok...so a quick update. I put up my G31 beams today...installed two air choke as recommended earlier in this thread and by those specs. Still seeing some feedback but not nearly as bad as before. I’m showing about 2:1 swr at the radio when the amp is active...barely anything with the amp off...

I I have some lmr400 flex on the way for another project...would that be a better choice for the coil?

By the way, would a coil of coax at the antenna provide a good choke or do I need to order an actual Balun choke? I’d coax works about how many coil should I start with and what diameter? Lmr400 ok or something else? Thanks!

Swr between the amp and radio shows high swr as well.

First antenna was a Hustler Ground plane. A99 doesn’t have ground plane radials. And I do not have a choke at the antenna but could certainly give that a try. Thanks!!

I’ll try a different radio and see how that works. Also, all the jumpers are 9’ so I will try a 6’ and 12’. Thanks so much!

As a side note...I tried this set up into my 1500w dummy load...no issues. Maybe that piece of info will lend a clue? I know I’m missing something simple.

This is a “600Hd base unit”...using HG2879c pills. Driven by a Stryker 955 problem... I get feed back to the radio receive when I unkey and swr is in the 2.8-3 range on the radio face...verified with a meter as well. This is only on a.m. *brand new amp...no reflect rf when it left the...

my understanding was the the entire keying circuit would be replaced with a custom heavy duty unit. The tech said that Maco put a substandard part in to begin with.

I certainly will! Haven’t had a chance to take it to the tech but plan too in the next couple weekends. After speaking with him, he seemed to think everything had to do with a bad keying relay. Said replacing that and lining it up should take care of the issue!
