New Victim! (project) Realistic Navaho TRC-457

Ok.. From left to right: Lo-pass audio filter on/off, Extra channels on/off, Extra channel bank selector knob, Freq counter with channel bank indicators below it, Modulation meter, Mic gain knob. There's also a 10-turn potentiometer in the clarifier circuit now. The freq counter is not hooked...

New Victim! (project) Realistic Navaho TRC-457

She already works like a dream despite being a little rough on the cosmetics. I'm gonna replace the Electrolytic Caps, the heatsink insulators & paste, clean the pots, check all the voltages & signal levels, and give her a good general cleaning. After that, I'm open to suggestions.

    CB Dipole antenna

I like these: https://www.balundesigns.com/model-1115-1-1-balun-1-5-54-mhz-3kw/ I build them, rather than buy them, but these guys have a good design. Why reinvent the wheel? They have a 5KW rated version too if you like mo-powa..

Whose Using RG400 and a Mini Butane Torch

Nightthumper, THIS is the best tutorial I have ever seen on how to do good reliable solder installations of PL259 connectors on coax. It was published in On The Air magazine, and I liked it so much that I scanned it to .pdf and hosted it on my site. here is the link adress one more time...

Sears Roadtaker 40 SSB Base Station Model (934.38270700) Works but No Mic.

Here's another one. Kinda beat up, but would make a good project. Roadtalker 40 SSB Base 934.38270700

Sears Roadtaker 40 SSB Base Station Model (934.38270700) Works but No Mic.

Roadtalker 40 SSB Base 934.38270700 The seller says they can hear local radio traffic coming across loud & clear even with no antenna attached. A little bit of info on this model: These are great radios. I have one. These were sold around 1978, built by Hitachi for Sears (and JC Penny as...

    Uniden Bearcat 980SSB (later revision)

Oh. Well, sorry for the misunderstanding.. If the AGC is not an all-digital feature, there may well be an easy way to delete/bypass it's effect on the transmit audio. Sure wish we had schematics. The radio has been out for quite a few years now. Anyone know of a place where they've been...

    Uniden Bearcat 980SSB (later revision)

Ok. I couldn't resist. I'm gonna expand the range of the clarifier. I know, I know.. The radio is useless now... That's ok. I'm one of those guys who likes to annoy everyone by sounding like Papa Smurf or Darth Vader on SSB all the time. I also like to talk on SSB frequency slots that aren't...

    Uniden Bearcat 980SSB (later revision)

Well, first off, from what I understand, most of the failed displays are on the earlier revision radio. There are 2 versions (The one with the screw on the back is the earlier version). Second, with modern consumer-grade electronics, low-powered all-smt designs are pretty much the order of the...

    Uniden Bearcat 980SSB (later revision)

So far, I have unlocked the clarifier and added a Frequency Counter. It has about 2Khz of slide up and down from channel center.. What's next??? You tell me. Open to all ideas/suggestions.

PART NUMBER FOR "SUPER VARACTOR DIODE"

Here are the specs on those.. Has anyone tried an ECG618? That thing has a 15.5 tuning ratio vs 2.9-3.2 on the ECG611-ECG614 respectively..

PART NUMBER FOR "SUPER VARACTOR DIODE"

Yeah..In the end (in this day & age)if what your into is truly range & accuracy, you might as well just rip out the analog crap and drop in a DDS VFO that incorporates an encoder wheel for fine adjustment..

PART NUMBER FOR "SUPER VARACTOR DIODE"

Awesome post, Andy.. Well, that's bordering on the limits of my analog circuit theory to try to fully understand everything that's going on there.. It's intriguing nonetheless.. I wonder if it would be possible to produce that circuit on a tiny pcb using all smt components for the purpose of a...

PART NUMBER FOR "SUPER VARACTOR DIODE"

You could do a lot of things but remember: To increase the tuning range, we want to increase the difference in capacitance across the range of voltage adjustment (~8V at one end, to negligible voltage at the other). When you place the two varactors in parallel, you are doubling the capacitance...

PART NUMBER FOR "SUPER VARACTOR DIODE"

Back on the "super-clarifier-diode" topic: I did receive my "SLIDER DIODES - Pkg of 5 For CB/10 Meter Radios QRP PLL Tuning VARACAP Clarifier" from Six-Star electronics on Ebay. Shipping took less than 2 days from click-to-mailbox.. Impressive.. However, I was disapointed with the...

PART NUMBER FOR "SUPER VARACTOR DIODE"

Hahah. Wow.. We have derailed the hell out of this thread, haven't we? I was just kidding on the drone jammer gun. I was being rediculous, in response to the comments about crashing RC planes with radios..

PART NUMBER FOR "SUPER VARACTOR DIODE"

Hey I just found this on Ebay: SLIDER DIODES - Pkg of 5 For CB/10 Meter Radios QRP PLL Tuning VARACAP Clarifier claims: The Range Is 4.2pf to 60pf With Variable Voltage Applied Can Be Used To Expand PLL Circuits Far Beyond Their Frequency Cutoff Better Than Original "Super Slider"Diodes...
