I bought one the other day, but it has the wrong mic. I had one years ago that the clarifier was moved to the front face, but I forgot how it was done. Anyone know how its done, because I dont remember.
Well if you'd be more patient ill shoot another Pic of it. Its put up and away for now. If youre going to be demanding, ill simply block you. I have a full time job, a life, a gf, and other hobbies besides radios. Just be patient...
Update. I got it to rx with rx audio, but still faults on tx even with a 3rd swapped pll box from another trc 455 as well as a second swapped tx box.. ive literally replaced all of the electrolytics, ect. Im at a loss.
Im wondering if I could add heavier wire and a heavier cap to the coil and what it would do. I did notice the blue RS big stick tuned differently when I replaced the rg 8x with rg 213u. I just like messing with antennas .
Good post. Interesting read. I do have a 16 foot big stick and I've never really used it aside from putting it up to check the match. I also own a regular 18 foot one too. It had a swr issue that had to do with corrosion. I solved that by taking it apart and rebuilding the bottom..
Yes it does rx just no tx. I swapped the pll box from the fortress with the one from my 455 and no issues, so that tells me the pll is ok. Funny thing is when I removed the pll box from the fortress the led stays lit regardless if the pll box is in the radio or not. I have also recapped all the...
I got one in a small lot of equipment. I know nothing about the radio, but my question concerns the pll unlock led. Is it supposed to be on all the time? It receives but has no tx. Yes I know about the caps being old, so thats a nonstarter..
I also noticed the bottom section is aluminum covered in fiberglass. I put the matcher back into the base and put the antenna together and put it up 10 feet off the ground. Without replacing the toasted cap, im getting a 1.2 on ch 40 and a 1.7 on ch 1. Upon looking at the top section, it looks...
I got one locally from a lady selling off her dad's stuff. When I hooked it up I had a bad match, so I decided to open up the bottom where the matching device is located. I found a wire broke off the coil. Also the cap looks toasty. Ill replace that woth with a better one.
Any mods or any way to turn up the mod in it. The adjustments I found do nothing to it. I cut d 14 and it didn't make a bit of difference. Yes I wired up a power mic, and it still falls flat. Yes I know it has 50 yo caps, but replacing caps in an old radio isn't the end all, be all...
Anyone ever mess with one? How much power will it take? I had one until I gave it to a local to put on his garage. He uses it with a small amp and no issues .
