11 meter is very quiet?

Just for the heck of it I turned on my base station at 4:15 PM and the radio was dead as a door nail on both lsb and am. And when you can't even pick up the Stupid Bowl ( Toilet Bowl ) you might as well find something else to spend time on. LOL

We could use some of that stuff right about now. Spring and early summer it rained almost every other day or a few days in a row. Made the grass grow like crazy and fight to get it mowed. Now the lawn is burning up and some trees are losing their leaves already. Last week we dealt with Wild Fire smoke from Canada. The weather is insane.

The skip is going to be what it is , it’s been spotty for awhile now and you just have to make contact when the opportunity presents itself. This is nothing new what most people complain about is they had great dx contacts when we were in the peak of the solar cycle (myself included) now we’re on a downward trajectory and will have good propagation for a couple more years. Then it’s going to be another 11 years before you see great conditions again.

Summer time is always hit and miss that hasn’t changed since before CB or ham radio . You can’t change Mother Nature.

So just enjoy the contacts you make and don’t sweat the small stuff. Your hair will last longer and maybe even your sanity as well .

A good site I check is “ham radio dx and pay attention to the 10m band it’s as clear as they get to 11m .

Cheers

few far away voices mainly aus,and fla ,nj but way weak.
glad you can talk to your brother.
my closest cb friend moved back to pa. then next close friend died. 3 in springfield mo but noisy n hard to break through the noise. sadly used to talk to few on 2 meters some died rest quit and cb same thing
I hear ya
My brother is the closest, and even he is over the mountain from me.
There are a handful of people left across the central valley, but not many, most are 70+ air miles that requires me to drive up to mount Bullion to reliably communicate with on 11 meters

About 45 years ago this area was a CB hot spot, had a local CB club, react members on channel 9 24/7 , channel 11 had the OTR guys on all the time and the net on sat, channel 15 had a bunch from Kerman, 17 was filled with drivers on the highway 99 corridor 24 hours a day, 20 was the local club channel for the central valley CB'ers, 22 was the channel the guys down in Fresno hung out....
Nothing like that now.

Central valley of California, Bay area, and Arizona all booming in here the last few hours. No problem making contacts on a barefoot 5555N2 this afternoon.......

Hope others are getting some conditions as well; it's been awfully quiet the last few days!
Yes, the band opened up today, I talked to @DXman mid day and several other stations up in the pacific north west, Gorden was booming out of Washington about 20 min later.
I could hear 178 talking to other stations here in CA, it was a nice little opening.

sad part there are many still operatable stations everywhere but choose to rarely talk.
3 or 5 not far from me that talk skip but they never talk to anybody local. odd way to be but takes all kinds i guess

Massive thunder storms every night this week. Listening to the rain pounding on our metal roof makes sleeping so good.

i had em again from 5 pm till way up in the night.odd we got 2 inches rain in our parched area. very very rare to see rain early august. usually at the end as we get ready to pick corn n get stuck

Not much happening around here but conditions are workable at about 9 o'clock cst. They're faint but I'm getting some short skip to Denver Co. while at the same time getting some Chicago in there. It's taking a little patience but it's doable despite what mother nature is holding out on.

I had the home base antenna disconnected most of the day because of thunderstorm forecast but heard lots of yakking on the mobile while I was driving. But couldn't make contacts. At one time I switched modes on the radio while driving and heard clear talking but when I got to my destination I checked the mode and it was in CW mode which confused me because I thought that should be Morris Code ?????
