I use the Diamond X500 144/440. It was 6 (read six) S units better than the Ringo Ranger.

Try HRO, Universal, which ever one doesn't have a store in your state.

how 'bout some input for a good 2-mtr base ant. i would like

something that is fairly broadbanded too. what do you have

and/or recommend?i may be asking too much as far as being

broadbanded, but was just wondering about some specs and opinions and also prices.who's got the best prices out there for these antennas?(currently i have a 2-mtr j-pole,1/2 copp)

The Diamond is a Super antenna, but is not Cheap.

If you don`t want to put a lot of $ into it and you only want two meters, Get a Hustler CG 144(about$32 at AES)CoLinear Mobile Antenna and a MKR-2 Radial Kit($21) so you can Mount it on a Mast at the house. With 5Db Gain and 6 Mhz Bandwidth, it will run cicles around the little ringo for about $5 more.

For 2 meters, the Opek UVS-300 ( 2M/70cm 9/11DB, 17' )works great for me through the whole band. It is a little "spotty" on UHF (only really good swr's on portions of the UHF band the rest are so-so.) Mine is at 20ft but plan on raising it to 65-70ft soon and MAYBE it will get a little better on UHF when it is above the trees. We will see. I've heard the shorter version (UVS-200) works good on both bands and is almost 1/2 the price. I will say I like the way they are built. It's virtualy impossible for water to get in to the antenna or coax. I have no problem hitting repeaters 60-80 miles away the way it is now but it may have alot to do with my location, "Your milleage may vary"<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif ALT=";)">
