Hi all

I've started this thread as a sort of reply to the one about minimum postings to allow sales.

I have already posted the text below in that thread but because it is a 'poll' thread it is unlikely to be read by any member who has already voted. Hence this thread.

I'm a newbie and if any of you have seen my 'newbie' thread (in this section) you will see precicely why I have joined.

I'll be quite blunt. It's because I have something to sell.

I can totally understand the view that most members seem to have regarding some sort of loyalty period before being able to access certain areas of the forum. I am a member of many forums that subscribe to that very system.

However, could I throw in a counter argument.

There are probably thousands of people like me who for one reason or another have equipment that they wish to part with. Equipment that could be of great interest to your membership and which could be lost forever if the means to dispose is limited. But, like me they know nothing about the subject and so would be unable to contribute to the threads in the forum.

My question is...would you rather be open to receive knowledge of equipment availability or close your doors to people who know nothing about your subject?

Dave.

Hi Dave,

Interesting.....And welcome to the site.

Well most people who have radio gear are radio operators. And radio operators should have thoughts, opinions and helpful information ect...for other operators. This is the World Wide Radio Forum not the World Wide Radio Gear Swap Shop. Most members come here for all the discussion and information forums located above and below the For Sale forum. This site is hardly a great or favored place to exclusively sell and buy stuff due to the relatively low regular user numbers. Ebay would be a much better place to sell gear as it has hundreds of thousands of "customers." This site has a mission-purpose and the operation of a For Sale forum isn't it.

I guess some members are probably concerned about unknowledgeable folks picking up gear and yard sales and such and looking for a place to dump it off while not otherwise participating in the primary focus of what the website is primarily about.

So may I ask how you have come up with radio gear you wish to sell but know nothing about it?

I'm sure some others will have some additional insight. Maybe a moderator or admin will come by offer some thoughts.

Good luck

Hi

I can fully appreciate what you are saying.

For myself the equipment I have is very basic and probably not worth a great deal but it would be a shame to just throw it away.

It's a Archer (radio shack) Space Patrol Base Station that I found in my late mothers loft. It's a toy from my youth in perfect condition, boxed and I discovered from google searching that your forum had dealt with them in the past. See my 'newbie' thread for details.

As you say...most people who have radio gear...etc. My thought is that there must be miriad occasions where, particularly following berievement, relatives come across equipment that they know nothing about but would like to dispose of via the most appropriate market.

This stuff could be rare, vintage or just plain useful, surely the opportunity to ply it should be granted.

Dave.

Would love to see your item dave s

As requested....

Not the best photography but it's gone 9:00pm here and its dark so I'm using room lights.
I'll perhaps get some better shots tomorrow....

The box is slightly tatty but complete, all the original packing is intact, the user manual is complete and the unit itself is as new. It measures 9 1/2" wide (plus the mike), 4 1/2" high and 4" deep.

Well, this will be my 9th post so perhaps I've fulfilled any criteria for selling anyway, even if it is by accident.

Not by Wire Weasel's standards but you just keep on and some day you could be as obnoxious as he.

Nice find by the way.

welcome to the forum dave .

my thoughts are (and im just a member , not staff) two fold .
1 to give members a chance to get to know the seller and see if they seem likely to give an accurate assement of the functionality of the gear .
2 to give something to the forum rather than just show up to get money from its members . IMO asking questions is giving to the forum because it promotes discussion , giving answers does the same thing . and giving wrong answers gives a chance to correct that wrong information.

OK Boot Monster, perhaps I'm being a bit 'devils advocate' on this.

I can honestly see and respect all the reasons for 'getting to know' someone before 'dealing' with them but that can be done after you've found out that they've got something that you want. ...How well do you know an eBay seller before bidding?

If someone has gone to the trouble of finding and joining a forum of people with specialist interest in an item that they have got rather than just sticking it on eBay and letting it go to someone who might not appreciate it so much then perhaps they deserve a little more..........consideration and respect are the wrong words..... but I think you know what I mean.

Cheeky Lad isn't he! :D

I like your determination Dave. If I needed any of your stuff, I swear I would break my own rule and give you a shot.
