Well after wanting one for almost a year...I have a new Kenwood TM-G707A and Tram D-1800 antenna ordered and will be here Monday. I've never messed with a dual band ant. before so I dont have a clue as to how to adjust one. HELP!

I am not familiar with that antenna and could not find any info on it but you probably don't have to worry anyway. It should have instructions with it.Any dual band mobile antenna,(that antenna is mobile right?) I have seen or used was preset and the match was great. They are usually fairly broadband too so that helps. My Comet CA-2x4SR was a perfect match on both bands Wouldn't even think about trying to retune it.If it is mounted away from any metallic surface like the cab of a truck you should be fine.

Thanks everyone! I started making a mag mount for it today and hopefuly I'll get a chance tomorrow to finish it up and have it ready to go for monday afternoon when I take off for vacation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be pre-tuned I couldn't find a site for the Tram D-1800 but talked to a couple of folks that were using them at a swap meet and they both liked them. I found one listed on E-Bay if you want to take a look.

Follow up....Well I've been told by many many folks around town there is no adjustment for a dual band antenna and there is no way or need to tune it just plug -n- play. Well I finally got around to installing it today and checked the SWR's and I got a 2.7 on the high freq.(Both bands) and a 1.9 on the lower freq.s (again both bands). I was at a local ham shop and went in and asked if they had something I could trim the whip with and got the same "can't adjust a dual bander". He asked what my readings were and told me "they were just fine and not to worry about it" I went home and started trimming little by little checking L-M-H freq.s on both bands as I went along. It is now 1.1 on the lower freq.s of both bands, "flat" on mid freq.s and 1.2 on the high freq.s Now THIS is what I call "Just fine and not to worry about"

Quote:
If your transmitter doesn't like to load into a mismatch greater than 2:1, buy or build yourself an antenna tuner and save yourself a lot of grief by forgetting the swr on the line to the antenna if it's within reasonable limits, say 10:1."

Quote:
You just need a resonant antenna SYSTEM, consisting of antenna, feedline and a matching device.

I read the article. I think I'll be happy with the antenna the way it is now with the low SWR/reflected watt readings.

I think it was one of those "get whatcha pay for" things. Before adjusting mine I tried a different stinger from a guy parked next to me (with his approval )and readings were low. It seems to work fine now as I've been hitting repeaters 70 miles away.
