Rigexpert hands down! Waaaay more useful information is displayed, alot more features. Nice color graphic display. Computer connection, firmware updates, buyer/tech support is alot better.
The reasons why the MFJ isn't the better choice.
1. Uses 10 batteries, eats them quick, Rigexpert uses 2
2. Battery charger on MFJ useless
3. Touchy over sensitive controls
4. Limited functions, no SWR or other scanning, no plot graphs, no memory bands, no multiband scanning, and more.
5. Bulky, heavier, no lighted screen.
6. Costs more depending on Rig expert model.
Basically the MFJ was good in it's day but now it's antiquated.
Notice MFJ makes a version like the Rig expert to compete with.

I own a Rig Expert. It's much better than any MFJ IMO for the same reasons stated in groundwire's reply above. Does Smith chart too.
I too, have gone from a MFJ to Rigexpert. For many of the reasons listed above, and size / weight. I do mostly portable nowadays and carting the heavy mfj to a mountain top seemed not ideal.
Or consider a Nano VNA - cheapest solution. Not as great for mobile but nice for base when used with PC with the software.
