Hope im not hijacking someones thread.
I got 1 of these radios about a month and a half ago myself.
I enjoy it and get good audio reports.
Only negative i have is it seems to have a higher noise floor on lsb than am and makes some low db skip hard to hear.
May be a good candidate for a west mtn speaker

I seemed to experience that initially, too. Then I changed the location of my antenna, changed antenna for another, onto a better bonded mount, and the issue disappeared. That wasn't my goal, I was just moving things around, but it happened and I'm happy about it.
I can't get into the channels 1-5 within public data. Follow instructions, but it just goes back to channel display...
When I got the rig I was surprised in that it was smaller than I expected. So far all I've done is to take it out of the box and just make sure that everything works. Which it did. My wife talked to some of her friends' base stations here (10 kms max) using our A99 and everyone said it sounds good. This is going in my wife's new Renault Duster Oroch and I am still waiting for the antenna and mount to get here. When it does I will drive up to the top of Guatape mountain (6700') and see what it will do. I'll let you know.

It's been way too long since I've been on the air. Got everything ready to go, but need to finish fixing the roof on my workshop before it falls in and busts up everything. Pretty soon I'll surprise everyone by keying up again.

No. According to the manual in order to get to the hi cut menu choice I must press menu, then press the channel knob, then dial to the "PB" choice and turn it on. Then I must again press menu, long press channel knob, then it will let me turn to choices 1 thru 5, 5 being hi cut. However, it does not, but just does the standard 01 thru 15.
In short, I cannot access the hi cut menu choice.
