it appears they have revigorated the original version into something that just might work.

Some of new changes are:

Scrolling Frequency Display (yes, it will show you the actual frequency!)
WX/VHF FM Scanner feature covering 140-170MHz
Return of the COARSE clarifier function (settable in the menu to +/- 5KHz).
CTCSS/DCS individually settable for TX & RX
Repeater shift
Additional LED display options (PC configurable) for RF Power level, Mic Gain, Squelch, Volume and SWR readout.
