That's a pretty awesome setup you've got going on there!

A super cap is essentially a battery. I liked using the hc600's because they're small and not crazy expensive. I'd tie 4, 8 or more together depending on the build. I'd build a rack to hold them side by side behind a rear seat or whatever and save space. Limitless options.

In your case one or two would make a difference but you'd have to run good cable to it.

If I remember right a hc600 or 800 is equivalent to like 100 1 farad caps just to give you an idea.

My current setup: AT6666, 8 pill, 240 amp custom alternator, AGM battery under the hood, 2/0 cables, 500farad cap bank at the amp,everything well grounded. The cap bank made a big difference in average voltage at amp, PEP watts came up by 200 and average went from around 30% to over 45%. For me a super cap is worth it when running anything over a 2 pill. Want evidence?? scope the battery voltage while talking SSB before and after the super cap. The little 1 farad stereo shop caps don't do anything.

Glad that is working out for you. The 240 amp alternator and heavy gage wire are probably the most important parts of the setup. Usually when this topic comes up most people want to add bat caps to their setup (85-120 amp alternator) so they can run a bigger amp.

Even with the 240 amp alternator, when I was keyed up on SSB the voltage would vary from 12.6 to 16.0 at the amp. Multiple voltage regulators later, I came to the conclusion that the regulators couldn't keep up and installed the super cap, now it floats at 14.7 volts and holds a steady 14.4 keyed. A few months ago I had to pull the custom alternator off due to failed diodes, I ran with the stock alternator for a few weeks and it floats at 14.4 and holds a steady 14.0 keyed. This is watching the voltage on a scope so the true high and low voltages are seem. This is a with a 500F super cap, not the little 1F stereo shop garbage that most people think about when caps are talked about.

Been giving the little Kinetik battery some thought ? Is there more to it then just hooking up bigger wire from the car battery to the Kinetik close to the amplifier ? (I have plenty of room for that within a foot or so) Question is on the Kinetik , does there have to be something else going on when it comes the Kinetik being charged ? Been reading that AGM batteries tend to charge differently then regular car batteries ? So I'm only guessing that it might not be as easy as it sounds ? Thanks E828

Get yourself a couple of those hc600's , run some good positive wire straight to your alternator and the negative short as possible to a good frame ground. You'll notice the difference, test it with a meter before and after to see it for yourself.

Just wanted to check in on this one , I've been running 1 of those hc600 batteries now for a few months now , has really worked out for me with very little draw whatsoever ! THEY WORK ! I check the voltages from time to time and all has been good , No battery bloating or anything like that. Just wanted to thank everyone for steering me clear from the capacitors and going with these batteries . I'm impressed. Thanks again Switch Kit
