I have never seen that many harmonics of that magnitude coming out of a radio before! That is insane!
I don't think those are harmonics. Those are the sidebands. He switches the analyzer to "one kilohertz" and I think that was the horizontal markers. He is injecting a 1KHz tone so you would see the sidebands appear every 1 KHz out with that kind of distortion. His reference to "be kind to your neighbors" is refering to adjacent channels. If it were harmonics you were seeing the peaks would be just tiny straight lines due to the bandwidth you would be looking at on the screen.

However, just about everything he said in the video that I can recall ATM is correct.
If you care about harmonics or spurs just don't buy an export. They are engineered to suck.

Those radios must stand the FCC test and comply to standards - just like any other radio.
ANY radio will go bananas when the mod limiter is clipped.
I didn't think the exports had to meet any FCC standards. If they did they would have a certification on the back and not be on the list of illegal radios.
I've had weird issues running exports with amplifiers. Most of them I bought new and we're stock. Recently I tried my stryker in the mobile and changed nothing else. With a 1kw carrier I had almost 100 watts of reflect, put the 29 back inline and I have 15 watts of reflect. This is all with no modulation just a carrier.
The funny thing is the Stryker looks much better on the scope than the 29. I get the same pep out of the amplifier with either radio but the with the 29 I have about 600 more average with modulation and less reflect.
How about the locals with exports that I can see transmit on 28 mhz with my SDR? Some of them you can even hear. The exports look nice, have a lot of features, sound great and cost a pretty penny but I don't care to use one.
They aren't illegal for a Ham operator to use them on 10 or 12m as designed; but if it modified for 11m - it is illegal.
A Ham can legally build and use his own radio but it still has to meet harmonic suppression specs. Stryker does not list this in the manual for the 955. Even if they did, like galaxy does, the radio is still illegal if it doesn't meet the minimum specs.
I'm not preaching the law to anyone but will never be a fan of these radios. I have a friend that loves his galaxy because "it sounds great", has a lot of features and looks good on his desk. He feels like he'd be taking a step down by using a type accepted CB...I used to feel that way too.
True for Icoms, Kenwoods, Yaesu's, etc.
NOT TRUE FOR 10 METER EXPORTS LIKE GALAXY, CONNEX, etc. Nearly any or all of those have yet or ever will receive FCC approval. This issue has been beat to death already.
The FCC has to approve every mass produced real HF radio for sale and to be used on amateur bands in the US.
Google search the new Icom 7610 and you will see this disclaimer just like every new HF radio before it had.

Preach it. .... If my ts-50 front end wouldn't overload i would be running it.
If the truckers could hear what they sound like on the ts-50 AM mode they would throw them out the window...... It only takes a few miles of listening to pick out the nasty signals.
Why dont the hf rig manufactures design a good AM mode rig ?
I would definetly buy one.
Not enough hams interested in AM or they would probably market one.
