Hello,
I just got a Stock never been tinkered with, Cobra 142 GTL and need to unlock the Clarifier.
I want to unlock the clarifier with the stock slide. Nomad has a write up on the Cobra 148 GTL doing the same thing I want for the 142.

Thanks,
Crankshaft

Must be getting old. Remembered this request as Uniden Washington. Yeah, same circuit board. Didn't find one picture of that procedure for that model. Did find the text file that got handed to a new tech.

Here's the setup for that radio. Pretty sure the wire colors are the same.

Find the wire on the clarifier's clockwise lug, Should be red with a white stripe. Unsolder it from the push-switch circuit board. Lap-splice two inches of wire onto the end so it will reach to pin 9 of the 8719 PLL. This provides regulated 8 Volts DC. This will activate the front-panel control all the time.

Follow the orange wire from the clarifier's CCW lug to the push-switch board. Unsolder the far end and move it to a ground foil on the main circuit board, preferably near the 8719 PLL. This unhooks the clarifier's low-frequency end from the receive-only power source.

Find D36, near the front edge of the circuit board next to the MB8719 PLL chip's inboard end. Pull D36. Pulling out one end only lets you put it back later if so desired. No idea why anyone would want to. This shuts down the trimmer pot that the factory setup uses to set the transmit side to channel center.

Find R187 at the very front edge of the circuit board, about 2/3 of the way from the PLL chip to the end with the mike socket. Pull R187 out. This resistor feeds from the receive-only 8 Volts, and serves to even out the clarifier's coverage either side of center. You don't need it.

If the receiver was already on frequency, you won't need to adjust anything further.
