Cobra 2000 GTL Alignment?

People fear what they do not understand.
Don't do it if you you don't have a clue.

After doing many alignments, they will always end well.

Gotta learn sometime . . . Experience has been my teacher BTW . . .

That was pretty confusing.

That was pretty confusing.

How so?
To recap, if you cannot take the risk to learn; then you won't learn anything.

Still not getting any reading?

Either you haven't attached the test leads to the right places, you have not followed the directions correctly, or your Fluke meter has a blown fuse. Any combination of those factors are possible.

*EDIT*
The 2000 SM is wrong!
TP7 & 8 are the bias wires.
Use this SM when doing the bias, it is for the Cobra 148GTL - which is basically the same radio.

Did exactly as you said.

I agree. But to the OP, I would print the manual out including the board layout. Study it a bit. RTM for the meter and practice with it a bit to fully understand it. Then I wouldn't be above even tuning around on a junker radio. And then when you feel comfortable go for it.

I mean, if the guy is having trouble reading the manual and using the meter, how can the tuneup turn out right?

No disrespect intended, but maybe just take a step back is all.

Don't do it if you don't have the proper gear either. A DMM on its own or even with a power meter isn't enough unless you don't care about splattering all over the bands.

I have set bias before....just unfamiliar with the new dmm....and you can see for yourselves by the pic of the manual it says to check bias at tp3...must be a typo?

I found the culprit.....the fluke 179 has 2 big fuses.....the fuse for 400 mA is missing.

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
