Cobra 2000 GTL frequency jumps around anybody know of to fix this. There are no real good CB shops here and I am not going to send it to someone and pay $20 to $30 for shipping.

1) The VCO voltage setting may be too high or low at a given freq, so the PLL circuit loses its lock
2) Poor solder joints in the PLL or other parts of the Loop or Output Oscillator circuit.
3) Bad PLL chip.

Send it to Chip @ 'The Radio Shop Supply' - or to Chris Holland's 'The Radio Shop' in Ontario CA - if you need to send it to a pro.

That should make something happen for ya . . .

I would send it to Snake in AZ but wait time is like 6 to 8 weeks before he will even look at it and his prices are like 40% more than most other techs. There use to be 2 decent techs here in Houston area not sure it they are still around and they are a min of 35 miles away.

On a few channels the frequency counter jumps around other channels it do not move and on ssb counter jumps around

One more thing I forgot to say is the meters are stuff is fixing them easy for do you have to replace them??

Is the radio transmitting and receiving on frequency and only the frequency counter jumping around?

Then, you might have to go to eBay and find the dude that rebuilds these units.
IIRC; this guy will exchange/charge for a rebuilt unit.
Or he will rebuild yours.

Happy Hunting . . .

my cobra 2000 does the same thing, it does not effect any qso just jumps a little bit.

I look at freq counter to ensure what freq I am on then make the contact or qso with locals here.

Little bit of jumping around on the freq counter does not bother the conversation.

NOW I do have am old Siltroniox 1011c,, this does jump around on freq.(n)

The radio is dropping voltage on your peaks, The power supply and wires in the 2000 just isn’t made to take the draw of a peaked radio. This even happens even if you use an external power supply cause The main board has no cap on it and the white wire coming from the AC/DC switch is thin. The way to help solve this problem is to increase the size of the white wire to the main board(attach on the foil side the hole is small) and put a 6800uf 25v or higher on the center terminal on the AC/DC switch. This will help on the peaks and should let the counter get the right voltage and give you more constants voltage.
