I have an old varmint vl-250 tube amp that has blown tubes. This is the style amp that just plugs into the wall and has its own supply. Ive found varying info about it but a majority of what I have read suggests tat the onboard power supply is capable of producing up to 100 amps. Im wondering if anyone has every managed to convert one of these into a bench style power supply and not an amp anymore.

I am on my phone so no long explanation as to why.

The answer is no it will not work. Transformer in that amp can not handle that much current draw .

Tubes operate with high voltage and relatively low current, maybe an amp or two at the most for big tubes. 100 amps is 100% impossible for that transformer to handle.Even the filament transformer windings will not do it.
