I would be more impressed if that bolt had a more positive lock after returning to rest.


It does bounce a bit, huh. It's also massive.

One of the best, an M14. Look at the front of the bolt.

The M14, like it's base, the M1 Garand has a rotating bolt and a locking lug. The M1 Carbine (whose design was contributed to by a convict, David Williams), also uses a rotating, locking bolt. The M4, todays variation of the AR15/M16 design also uses a locking bolt.

Even the simple and very reliable AK47 has locking lugs.

Cool vid, yet a very simple design. Its cyclic rate on full auto would be hampered by the "bounce" firing from a closed bolt, but if it fired from an open bolt, the rate would increase at the cost of things invading the very large breech.
