Difference between RCI 2995dx and dxcf

Ahh, the suffix "CF" means "Cooling Fan".

That model comes with the fans and bracket on the rear.

Humorous part is that this radio no longer needs that fan. When the original versions used the heat sink for the old, inefficient power supply it had three sources of heat. The rectifier, the regulator and the linear transistors.

The sum total of those three heat sources made at least one fan a good idea.

But now that heat sink carries only the heat from the linear. The power supply is now a 'brick' switchmode supply.

It's plenty big enough to dissipate the heat from the linear alone without a fan.

But hey, people got used to the idea that you need one, so they made it a standard feature.

But only after making it unnecessary.
