I got Direct tv about 2 month ago , WOW !! after 15 years of local cable and paying more for less , we got Direct tv for less and much more channels to get lost in and plus a package of XM Radio channels. The quality is top notch compared to the old cable we had. My question is this , I see that they sell a lot of the Direct TV boxes along with access cards on Ebay , would one of these work on my new system ? or is there a trick for that to happen ? We have the boxes on 3 TV's here at the house , it's basically 5.00 more per each 2 and 3 TV sets, still really not a bad deal at 54.00 a month total cost. When we had cable I had run a line into the garage were I spend a lot of my free time , IM just wondering if I get one of the boxes off of Ebay that I might be able to get it working down in my Garage without having access problems ? Thanks

Free To Air Not Working with just software anymore.
Switch Kit,buy an extra one from DTV directly or an authorized dealer,DTV sometimes don't like to authorize old units, they will try to sell you a new access card, wich sometimes they charge more for just the card than buying a new receiver w/access card included, plus you get warranty.
You would not had to deal with broken remotes and all the hassle to try to activate an old unit.
They normally run around $75.00 to $100.00 for a basic unit.

He has direct TV
not the dish network

now if he had gone with the dish network
then those free to air boxes would work quite well for him

Later

in not an expert only know what i hear from a friend thats into that stuff. he has the flash boxes and all that for the crads i know hes gets both networks and several other sats his dish moves. gest like 4 different sats on one dish. guess you would call him a sat haXor/hacker. :pint

appraciate all the help gentleman , I was just trying to save a buck on a 4th box for the garage ,especially for the XM radio stations. Maybe 5 more bucks a month wouldn't be so bad after all for another box. thanks

As someone else said, get a FTA receiver.

I use the Fortec Star Lifetime Ultra... Only because when I purchased it, it was the best you could get.

I get > 1000 channels, all free. I get EVERYTHING but HD dish programming (my box doesn't do HD, that came out in the next model :( ). I also get all the BellVue Express, and pretty much everything BUT direcTV.

If you would like DTV, they have FTA boxes that are picking up FTA now, but I have never messed with them, and can't tell you anything about them.

If you'd like to experiment with FTA hacking, get a twinhain card. It goes in your PC, allowing you to use it as a TiVO, a satellite receiver, and a few other things. Cost, about 40 dollars off ebay if you get one at the right time. If you enjoy it, get another reciever for your home.

DTV is nice. I started legally with them in the 90s. Started hacking them a couple years later. Gave all my dtv hacking stuff away after I got FTA, since it's just a matter of hooking the serial cable up to my FTA box, flash it with new code, and 10 minutes later I'm watching 13 sattelites with 25+ channels each!

1000 channels for noth'in !! Well it did cost you someth'in !! but IM sure you got your money's worth after the fact. IM getting older now and technology is really blowing me away nowadays !! I was looking at this little dish the other day and seeing two small cables going down into my house routed three different ways to three different boxes ,no phone lines are anything like that ,(figured we would not be PPV'ing anything) and that's it !! Quality TV viewing if I say so myself !! but unlike cable basic type stuff , can't route this unless I want to see the same thing on the box I would route it from. Well Toll-Free ......you have given me some ideas all the same. technology is moving faster then I've been able to keep up with it ,(computers come to mind) but I still find myself trying to beat the systems from time to time (MY BAD) alls I know is between DSL/Cable modems /cable tv / Sat TV ect.ect.ect. There are some folks out there making a whole lot of money !!!! off a whole lot of people. Thanks

I <<believe>> that's the address of the site I find most of my fta info on. I'm on my girlfriend's laptop atm, so I can't see my favorites... If that isn't it, I'll find the correct one and post it in a follow-up.

Get a 3 meter dish and both LNB's you need. A Diseq switch to switch between the LNB's and a satellite motor.

That will give you every single bird in the air... On the KU band. Download the code from the link above, and you can hack the dish network, BEV and a few others.... As a side benny, you also get satellite radio :)

Oh yeah, for you horn-dogs, you'll get too much porn, much of it out of the country so anything goes :)

Lots of al-jazeera and other stuff, anti-america. Nice to see the other point of view sometimes.

If this gets interesting enough, or people show enough interest, I'd be willing to do a sub-board or somethin.... People get IN TO free tv :)

But yeah, about 400 dollars gets you a VERY GOOD setup. Dish and everything. And this setup will work in most storms, whereas if you use a dish network or dtv dish, you will be sol on a LOT of stormy nights, the 3 meter dish has such a bigger reflector area that it gets a much better sig. Snowy nights screw me, but... Hey, I pay 9.somethin a month for basic cable for those nights :)

Uhh.... Yeah, that made sense... . The same sense that me saying I got tv for free did... After I quantified the 400 dollars spent lol.

Anyway, put a www in front of that url I posted earlier, or a forum.XXXXXX.tk and it should work as well. At times, they shut the forum down from new people, especially when an ECM comes..

Otherwise, enjoy.

Hey..

that link works..
it simply asks for a password..

simply click on cancell..
then it puts you on forum as unregisted looker

I really should get one of these set ups
do they have a high definition box yet for fta

i hear it is either out or very soon out
reason i ask is for when one uses it to get dish network

Thanks
