Dumb ???? #5 (mast insulation)

I have read several posts on here about insulating the mast from the antenna.

How is this done? Above the mast? beside the mast? On the mast?
How far is far enough?

Inquiring minds want to know.

[Lost Ram]

I use a pieces of fiberglass mast 4 foot long. I get a ID to accept the metal mast then drill a hole for the bolt and nylon lock nut.
