When I tried with the same item on ebay. ca it tried to gouge me $100+

The import BS charge is $68 on .com and $162 on .ca.
I just bought it on the .com annd saved money.
Ebay just thinks they can F**k people like that.

So, is the "import charge" really an import duty that goes into the Canadian treasury?

Seeing it calculated (probably) wrong twice would be reminiscent of Ebay's accuracy with calculating shipping costs.

Not very.

When you have to choose between incompetence and dishonesty to explain this sort of horse-hockey, don't discount the stupid factor.
