Famous Kenwood audio

That "Kenwood sound" originally applied to the older tube or hybrid radios which all sound superb. It just carried over to the more modern solid state radios and although most Kenwoods today sound pretty decent that saying is not as accurate today as it once was.

Most of the higher end HF rigs give you the ability to tailor your TX audio significantly to your liking (or to the liking of those who are listening to you). But too many people crank up the compression to the point of lousy audio on SSB, regardless of the rig. There are 3 rigs on the market that implement the newer CESSB compression algorithm which gives incredible average power increase from compression without the distortion: Apache, Flex, and Elecraft.
