Ran across this on the web today, he posted it last year.
Maybe you can get this guy to complete the project he started working on, looks like a cool way to go if you really want to expand the frequency range of the radio.

Yeah...meh..OK. Cool but a lot of trouble to go through for a radio chassis that is really outdated now and up there in age. While I like the chassis and agree it's better than a lot of what is out there..realize this design came up in 1986 and then again in 1988 and is old. Saying that it is better than a lot of what is out there isn't saying much either. I could see it having a limited target market for die hard fans..but...that's about it. Caps are getting old..parts discontinued and basically it was a glorified CB rig to begin with.
