My friend a older CBer with bad eyes hooked a AMP backards to the radio and now when you turn the variable to high power you get about two watts dead key and swings to about 13 cant get any more out of it.Any ideas what should be checked? He is low income and I am going to repair this free for him if I can.Any help would be great.

That's more than a little odd. Usually a faulty amplifier hookup either causes no trouble, or blows out the radio's final altogether.

Did you ever see how much power it would deliver before this hookup problem?

On your meter?

If someone had already "tweaked" it before the amplifier incident, maybe this is all the power it was giving him before?

It was working fine before he hooked it up backwards to the AMP when I got the radio seal were still on the radio.I am going to pull the final and test it.
