Like oldslowchevy said. The Dx 949 is an FCC type certified CB radio. Its 100% legal as it comes from the factory. Galaxy has a line of "10 meter amateur radios" for the export market and also have a line of legal CBs as well.

Type accepted Galaxy radios
DX919, DX929, and DX939 are AM only. AM and SSB radios are DX949, DX959, and DX979.

You missed one.
 
My 949 tuned up to about 25 watts. I'd suggest an external freq. counter to do any sidebanding. Also, after I got the frequency counter I noticed the AM can be tuned with the clarifier. Zero was a few degrees to the right. My BC 980 is a few degrees to the left.
