Galaxy DX-959

I used to be a Galaxy fanatic. I have purchased two dx-949's, one dx-959, and a DX-979. All off frequency to the point SSB communications were impossible. Drifting all over the place. I aligned the DX-979 to tight tolerances only to have the modulation circuits give up the ghost. The modulation was set to the maximum of 95% and it still crapped out.
In the future I'm saving my money and buying a real radio.
H&Y electronics sells a truck load of Galaxy radios just because they are cheap. You get what you pay for some times you don't.

Should've gotten a 959. They're made in Malaysia,whatever that means. That's why I bought one. I didn't want to buy Chinese crap(979).

Cheaper. Its ALWAYS about the dollar.

Yeah if you want cheap. There are some things I buy that are made of good to excellent quality like my guns,my knives, driving glasses,gasoline(100% straight gas).
I guess I'm wanting to see a 'Made in USA' radio using good to top shelf components, designed by people who know how to make and market a quality product. The Serengeti glasses I own came in a hard case made in China even though the glasses were made in Italy. Now that's sacrilegious!

I've had a few Galaxy rigs over the years. I liked them all and never had any big issues with them. I only have a DX-94HP at the moment, I'd say it's one of my faves. I want to find an old truck to mount it in with a steel whip.

I'd buy a newer Galaxy anytime.

I had my 959 on last night and today. The only thing I don't like is one of the led channel display elements isn't lit but sometimes it comes on. It punches through a lot of low and medium level skip conditions for when I want to talk local and I can even make DX contacts with it. The KL203 gives it a big kick with a 229 watt ERP through my A99/FS99/GPK1 base antenna. It would be more if I had some 213 coax. Everybody says my rig sounds good, nothing overdriven.

My Galaxy is one of the newer mosfet versions and was modded and aligned by none other than DTB himself.

I bought my first galaxy a while back from DTB I like the Starlite face plate. I use it in the shack on a power supply also have a 6 dig counter. It doesn't drift after a short warm up and even before its olny hi by 1 on the last digit.. Dam good radio and I would buy again I may hold out for the DX-94HP even though its a little more than the other ( New on the market ) radios
