Galaxy DX48T

Pros: Much better amplifier than anything Ranger offers. The amps inside the Ranger radios such as the 2970DX, 6300F-150, and 6900F-150 need a lot of work to perform well. The one inside the 48T have some needed upgrades, and perform very well. When modified by a good tech, the radio can have extra filtering added which results in more power, and less harmonics.

Cons: No SSB, and no frequency counter. Don't understand the lat one at all. The radio is designed without a frequency counter, and without a frequency counter plug in the back. Very poor design.

Other tidbits: It seems kind of strange what Galaxy did with their new models. In the past, SSB radios like the Galaxy 77, 88, and 99 have always had dual finals. On the new series, the non-SSB radio has dual finals, and the SSB has a single final. Another strange thing is that the single final 93T has dual fans, and the dual final 48T has a single fan. Strange, huh?

On the 93T, there is not an RF Gain adjustment. With the atmosphere and all the traffic on the radio these days, you need RF gain. Don't know why they left that off.

Overall rating: Galaxy 48T - 3 stars

Galaxy 93T - 2 stars (will most likely be better after the first batch)

Quote:
perhaps the reasoning in the dual fans on the 93T is that it doesn't have the large heatsink? and maybe they thought it would be used mostly on ssb so one final would be enough with the more efficant mode?

The fan are actually on the back heatsink, so I understand why they did it. It's a good design, just sounds strange.

I figure they are coming out with the 93T with 1 final, and will probably come out with another model soon. Don't know that for sure, but that would make sense.

Like a 43T with a single final, and a 98T with dual finals. something like that.
