Galaxy pluto / galaxy 99v

Seems to me the Pluto was imported by an outfit who had no real incentive for quality control. That radio was smuggled into the country full functional. The "10-meter" fiction had not yet been put to work.
The Pluto and several other radios were built by Ranger for the Nochman Brothers in New York.
They imported and sold the Melika, the Saturn, Saturn Turbo and other non DX models.
No contact number, no warranty, no after sale support.
This was before Galaxy came along.

Robot voice almost won it for the 99v over the 2290s, it was close. I almost hate to run Toshibas as expensive as they are but the output sure looks good on the scope, swinging from 25 up to 50 avg and almost 150 peak mfj watts.
I remember one of the Imports, I believe Galaxy also had that voice scrambler, a friend in the mid 80s showed up one day with one, all black radio.

I love my old 99v, @OldTech03 fixed it up really nice.

  • @ Hambones amps:
Does anyone know if you can replace the 2290 in a galaxy dx 93t twin turbine with a 2sc2879 red dot? If so, what would have to be tuned?
  • @ ShadowDelaware:
Hambones the entire amp section would have to be retuned, and the rf transformers re wrapped.
