Hello all I’m having a problem with my galaxy 959b I picked up awhile back. When I hook up the radio to my power supply and radio on/off switch is off as soon as I turn the power supply on the radio comes on and if I turn the radio on/off switch on it stays on I have tried 2 different supplies with the same problem can’t figure it out weird. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

New power switch/volume pot. Sounds like the power switch is stuck or broken on. You can unsolder the two wires on the back of the pot/switch and when disco, it should be off and touching them together should turn it on. If so, the switch is bad. If not, that would require a look at the radio.

I will give it a try and let you know

You know, I wonder if it has a board mounted switch. If so, just pulling J16 should turn the radio off. If so, and you see no shorts on that board, you need a new switch.

I pulled j14 no change I also pulled j13,15and 16 no change but the radio tx and rx work fine this is a weird one

This is the board behind the meter, pull the plug labeled J4, if no change pull the plug labeled POW. If still staying on, I would check for a short at the header those connect to on the main board.

I have found the problem I was following all the traces on foil side on the left side of the board there were 3 long traces coming down and I noticed there was a hair sized thickness of solder across 2 traces that didn’t look like it belonged there I just knocked it off with my finger nail and low and behold the radio went off and now it’s working fine just got lucky finding it. Thanks for your help it is greatly appreciated

I figured you had a short somewhere. Glad you got it straightened out.
