Anyway to tell what year my philly grant xl is from serial# 55007538?

If you really want to know, take the cover off the radio and look at the date codes on the parts. For example the PLL chip behind the channel selector is a MB8719. Under that number there is usually a four digit code. Like 9248. The 92 means it was made in 1992 and the 48 means the 48th week of the year.
