How can I Tune a stock radio?

Just a brief look at that instrument looks like 2-3 thousand dollars. That will separate the men from the boys ! LOL I think I pooped my knickers ! LOL I think I could buy a good radio cheaper. HAHA
They're quite old now. Look at ones on the used market.

These days $3,000 isn't really all that much, I know plenty of people paying that much in rent every month.
As well, such electronic instruments should always be thought of as investments and not just purchases. Just a few jobs using that equipment and it will have paid for itself.

I'm sure it is a good piece of equipment and worth it if you intend on making money repairing radios, but hard for a small guy to cough up when your just getting started. At 75 YO I'll just lick my wounds and think about what I should have done when I was younger and planning for retirement.

So, saying "that's a future me problem" and hoping for the best isn't sound retirement planning advice? Boy I'm screwed. Oh well, that's a future me problem. ; )
Some times when your younger you don't know you will take that much interest in radio. Most don't have a crystal ball to look into. So for me it will stay a fun hobby.

just starting to learn to work on radios.
I was gonna recommend the best book on the subject, but the author/publisher's web site has gone blank. "The Screwdriver's guide to undertanding and repairing CB radios" is the best intro there ever has been. Lou Franklin's writing style is breezy and understandable. Here's a link to a copy for sale at Amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Screwdriver-Experts-Peaking-Repairing-Radios/dp/0943132398/?tag=worradfor-20

The price is stupidly high there. Was a lot cheaper when you could buy it from the author. Went to fleabay hoping for a better deal. The only search result was a copy for 520 bucks.

I would never scan and upload it if I thought I was robbing Lou of a sale. But I'm beginning to wonder if that ship has sailed and it's time to stick it to the 520-dollar troll and just get it scanned.

Just hope Lou's okay. Had some health issues a while back. Haven't heard from him in quite a while.

This is the one I bought back in 2023 from Amazon and it was $138 bucks so the price has jumped up in 2 years. They aren't bashful about giving it to you in the shorts ! Thank you Nomadradio
