As cold as it is how warm do I need to keep the shack when im not out there. It usually gets about 55 or so but as cold as its been its more like 50 sometimes with the thermosat set on low . Is 50 warm enough for radio equipment in my shack.
I turn it up when im out there, 65 or so.

50 should be fine, just keep an eye out for condensation, that would be my only concern, pretty much depends on humidity.

Depending on the gear I'd probably leave it warm up a bit before operating..

NOT the way to warm a shack...

I use a room 13 X 13 for my shack.
Fully insulated too.
I use a small thermostatically-controlled 1000 watt electric heater.
I'm also in CA; but it has dipped to 32F lately.

Got this cartoon from Custom CB Radios...

trade your solid state for vacuum tube radios and amps? run a bigger amp and get more radios? (commercial cell sites have to run AC in the winter). just a thought.
