I get so tired of otherwise nice base radio's butchered on ebay!

there is a lot of things you can consider when buying radio stuff on eBay. If a seller says it is untested and you see they have have lots or radio stuff for sale, you can be sure it is tested and has problems. you can even look at their feedback which can tell you what they have sold in the past.
If the eBay name is mauldroppinhammer and they have 100 radios for sale, I'd avoid it like the plague. If the same ad was listed by cuddlybeaniebaby, and they have 100's of trinkets for sale and only 1 radio, I would absolutely consider it.
If you are consistently unhappy with what you are buying, you are buying with emotion, and not reason or logic.
