Well, perusing Craigslist, I found a spectacular deal on a good looking VX-5R.
I met with the seller and managed to pay the asking price of $80 for the bare radio and charger. It was missing the antenna extension, but had a higher capacity battery (1400mah) than the stock (1100mah).
Got home and checked it out. Full power on all three bands and was already programmed with the local active repeaters. Great!
I'm not so thrilled with the receive performance. I guess it works as it should, but not quite as good as my mobile (using the same antenna).
Now, I'VE BEEN TOLD that, since I bought this VX-5R, I DON'T NEED to get the VX-8R!
