Many years back, my boss went on a DXpedition in the pacific. Cant fully remember where. Kure, Kingman? Sorry just dont remember. But it was rare, and there was a planet pileup. Well, I was at work getting ready for an upcoming job. Needed the Boss' hammer drill. The prep meeting at work discussed how were we going to get the drill. Boss didnt have a satellite phone. I immediately grinned and said I got this. That night I got on hf and dialed up 20m. Found my boss in the middle of a huge pileup. I shoot my suffix out and he immediately answers. I ask where exactly and how to get his hammer drill. Yup, right in the middle of the pileup. So as the whole planet listens, my boss tells me how to break into his house and get the drill. Then at the end asks me if I need the contact for a QSL. I said no thanks, just needed the drill. Then signed off. Wonder what kind of comments he got after that???!!!

Good One. A friend of the family had told me a story once he was searching for a clear channel back in the early 1980's and he flips through Channel 9 to hear a guy that sounded local trying to make contact. The Channel 9 operator was asking if someone would call the Sheriff him and a tow truck as he was off the road into a snow bank. He sounded local, but we do not really use the Sheriff's office for anything but prisoner transports in the Pittsburgh area. My friend asked the guy to confirm his location for the Sheriff's office and he was calling from Nome Alaska. Must have been a good skip day for CB. Alaska to Southwest Penna.
