IC-2720 Crossband Issue

I traded for an IC-2720 transceiver and put it to work for crossband purposes. It was easily done, and worked very well... for a while. I do not know what changed, but no amount of resets, setup, and trial gets me what it had been doing. It receives signals from my HT andcretransmits them to others of my various VHF radios, both ways, but it is not receiving nor being heard by other stations as near as 4 miles and 8 miles away.
Anyone have any experience with this issue, or any ideas?
Frustrated, just frustrated...
