what is the difference between the three units? the only differnce i see is the 2G covers from 0.003 - 440 with no gaps? ( my guess) and the buttons light up and it comes with all the filtering encluding the UT-106...... id like if someone could reply who owns one and what they like about and dislike about it?

I almost picked up the MKIIG at a hamfest over the weekend.

I have the MKII in the shack all ready.

I never intend to use 440 but the 100w on 2 meters would have been nice.

Looks like time to find an external ssb amp for 2 meters as I passed up the sale on the MKIIG.

Good rigs, if you like menu driven stuff.

They recieve ok and have had good audio reports both on ssb and fm.

I do not like menu driven rigs but to get a shack in a box that is what one gets is menus and sub menus.

Give me my FT-102 or TS-820S any day and for vintage days I will fire up the Swan700CX.

For just good old HF hopping and DX I use the FT-1000MP or my TS-440sat.

I find I rarely use the 706MKII except for 6 meter and 2 meter.

Summary I found the MKII to do what it is advertised to do, it works as it should. It is just so darn small sitting on the bench next to the FT 1000 MP.
