I was surprised to see the 23 channel SSB Realistic TRC-48 in this 1974 Peter Fonda movie. I very capable radio indeed. Apparently you’re able to receive and transmit while this radio is turned off, and use the only frequency available that everybody can communicate on. That includes the helicopter radio and a few Motorola base radios used during that time period.

I only managed it once, once is all you get. on a trip from the far north of Scotland back home I stuck a tape of this on and the 3 kids aged between 6 and 9 were all mesmerized. they thought it was being broadcast from the States where all hell was breaking loose.
