The answer is yes.

At first it doesn't seem so bad.

Aw crud! But it's only one pin, and I can fix it. I'll just scrape the glue off what's left and...

Whelp, no coming back from that.

Anyone got a secret stash of MB8719's they want to unload cheap? Yeah, didn't think so.

I allegedly have one on the way. Obsolete parts dealer. We'll see if they're actually just a counterfeiter.

It looks very bad, but can you grind away at that right area so it might show up some shiny to the pin? Then throw some flux on it and see if you can get it to stick to a wire. Least to try and save its life.

The problem isn't the partial pin. I could fix that easily. The problem is the pin next to it that broke off at the chip body. That's supposed to be an 18 pin device, there's only 17 pins now.

I know but ive grinded away at a broken off pin just enough to get some of it barely showing shiny, then managed to get it to stick and use a wire. You at least have some bite to go into. you may be able to dremel from the top of it near the pin to expose more.

Ah, wasn't thinking of that. I'll have to see if my Dremel kit has the right bit.

.

yesterday I repaired a Uniden board (Madison/Cobra 2k)
had no signal from the carrier oscillator circuit.
the crystal had a glob of "that glue" on the side of it,
and it all fell off the board when I touched it.

I had a RCI/Galaxy radio recently with the same problem,
at the carrier oscillator crystal.

I buy these from time to time, they are legit.

I bought 5 of these, from a seller that was supposed to be in the US, from eBay. I received 5 remarked fakes from China. This was April 2021. I have to wonder where they would be getting legit chips from.
Idk where they come from, they work as expected and haven't had a failure yet. I have bought about 20 of them to date. Here is one from the first order I placed...

That was the last of 8. The next order I ordered 12 and this is what I got...

And they have all worked without fail. Here is an original I pulled awhile back..

Are they original? I don't know. They look right and act right. They are kinda pricey so I buy bulk when I can.

Yours look legit. The ones I got were remarked with laser etch and were fake.

It was back in 2017 I bought some voltage regulators for the Cobra 142 GTL radios I had... I bought some and they turned out to be new old stock. I have been meaning to buy some more, but unsure where there is a reliable new old stock on eBay.

This glue corroding everything reminds me of a time I thought I could rust-proof my undercarriage with candle wax. I heated a pot of wax, preheated the metal, and rubbed it on everything under the car. At the time, I had no idea stearic acid was a candle making ingredient. It all rusted faster than it would have had I left it alone.

Not very relevant to this discussion unless you try potting cans or stabilizing oscillators with candle wax like I did a few years back. Not sure if it would eat legs off, but it sure did a number to the car.
