What does the wax cover. not the cans. The whole area that the wax covers what is that??? and on the bottom that little cover what is that?

they put that wax on there so that temperature sensitive components arent as affected by the ambient temperature.
this helps with freq. drift, etc...
the metal plate on the bottom is for RF shielding.
this is usually used in receiver circuits so they dont pick up spurious signals from other parts of the radio.
