Take a look at this picture and note the radio mounted in the rack.

Take a wild guess where this radio was installed.
To be honest I was shocked when I spotted this image.
Back later with the answer.

Tis OceanGate. They used it for comms with the mothership while on the surface. Just one of several rinky-dink work arounds that Rush The Clown used.

I watched the documentary about ocean gate and Rush. The damn sub was screaming there was a problem and he ignore his own invention.
He didn't just ignore his invention, be built it wrong. Carbon fiber is great for keeping pressure in due to its tensile strength, but it's not good for keeping pressure out because the layers can de-laminate, shear, etc, especially repeated cycling like that. There should be a picture of that sub next to "FAFO" in the dictionary.

He was advised over and over the design was flawed, he just ignored them or fired them.
Too bad the rest of the passengers paid for his agroance with their lives.

It surprised me that P.H. Nargeolet drank Rush's Kool-Aid and willingly climbed into that soda-can. He was no dummy and had 30+ dives to 4000m in real submersibles before joining OceanGate.
