Is a vq9 contact common?

I had a short contact with vq9et on 15 meters. I hope he confrims though.

I'm not seeing a lot of vq9 contacts in logbooks that I look through. I wonder if this is a relatively rare contact.

I would LOVE to have a VQ9 in the log. NO it is not rare however it is not common either. There is very limited operation from Diego Garcia because access to the island is extremely remote and is limited to military personnel only.

Thanks for the replies guys. Also made my farthest contact on 15 meters when I worked Ireland.

Still looking to work a CONUS contact though. One day....

It's not as rare now as it was before 1976. Back then, VQ9 was Aldabra, Desroches, and Farquhar, each counting as a separate entity. I have Aldabra and Desroches confirmed and they still count separately for DXCC because of when the QSOs took place. Today they're all lumped together as "Chagos Isl", which should be "Chagos Archipelago".
