Hi all, I troubled everyone months ago to find some tips for my bulb desoldering tool and found 2 tips (jt-103). Well, I'm about to put my last tip on in preparation for a hr2600 recap. I knew this time would come and I fear I won't be able to find any more tips. I have been looking everywhere. So, I have been looking around for a new tool. It seems that the bulb-type tools aren't readily available anymore and I noticed the vacuum types.

Just a few listings on Amazon. Does anyone have any experience with any of these or can offer a suggestion for a different brand? Ideally I would want something that offers readily available replacement tips. I could just buy a new tool as they wear out, but some are too expensive for that. I wouldn't mind spending more if consumables were obtainable and the tool was built to last.

On thru the hole components like caps on older radio's I find just using a simple solder wick and a 40 watt solder iron works good.

Those solder suckers have their place and I occasionally used them too.

I don't do a great deal of soldering but this works fine:

I have lots of braid that I use sometimes and about 5 of the plungers. I find the bulb tool to be the quickest and easiest when removing 70+ caps. If a small task, the wick in a pinch or the plunger work fine, but I sometimes do bulk desoldering and the tool is perfect, especially for sleeved holes.

I sure wish Radio Shack was still around.....
I find these work well.

You know, Amazon never showed me that one. If I had seen it, I wouldn't have posted lol. I will see if I can search it outright. Thanks Jeff.

Edit to say I ordered it. I see there are no replaceable tips, but it looks heavier than my rs one so maybe it will last.

only one I can find so far showing its in stock.

edit, this site claims to have 2 also
I have been emailing rpelectronics, they are who I bought from a few months ago. They had 1 in stock and I got it. I asked again today since their site still lists them, they responded:
It's a ghost image from google. Sorry none in stock. We are sold out of iron and tips too.

I will look into that other site, thx.

I have both of those items you listed. The first one works OK, the second one doesn't get used much because the first works. Cheap compared to the expensive guns. If money is no object, get a Hakko. As previously mentioned, the solder wick gets used alot.
Well, I wish money was no object, I have been eyeing the Hakko as it has replaceable tips and good reviews, but you know, I gotta exist in this world too, and that price isn't very conducive to my need to eat. Thanks Mike for the review.

Oh, that w5swl site has the right part number, but the wrong item. That is the soldering tips. What I need is this:

Those are old tips in the pack, new tip on the tool. Notice the part number is the same?

I found my old one a couple of months ago, stashed in one of my MANY boxes of "stuff". Unfortunately, the bulb had all rotted and cracked.
I will send you this bulb in a few months after the tip is used up. The bulb has outlasted about 10 tips and 2 irons, and is still resilient.

edited due to typo

I found a few more sources, one from a beauty supply company.

Not sure how trustworthy they are. They have the same typos in their ads and have different stock quantities.
