I was just wondering, but is it possible to replace the 9v ni-cd battery in a Kenwood TR-9130 with one of the little round CR2032 coin type batteries to save the radios programing instead ?

I don't have the cord that is meant to be plugged into an outlet to keep the 9v ni-cd charged. So I'm trying to find a different alternative to try to save the radios memory.

You want to replace a 9 volt battery with a 3 volt battery? First you would need to stack three of them and second, make 100% sure that there is no charging current going to the batteries as they are NOT rechargeable, and lastly, how much current does the backup draw? Since the coin cells are not rechargeable you would have to replace them now and then the frequency of which would depend on the backup circuit current draw.

What about adding a diode to prevent charging and use a regular 9v alkaline? The image in the manual makes me think the connector is the same. I would sure think that 8.4v would be enough for memory but maybe using a schottky diode would be better.

It would be cool if the radio provided charging voltage when operating sufficient to turn off the diode so that there is only draw when it's not plugged in, but you make it sound as if the charging is done with a separate plug. IDK...

The factory NiCd battery was only 75mAH. A 9v energizer max has much more capacity and would give you at least 6 days of memory at 2.5mAH draw.
