Hey is $650.00 a good price for this radio....i looked it over seems to work good its an 9 out of a 10.... and how hard it it to do the mod???

650 leads me to believe you MAY have a gun pointed at the seller

Or the rig is stolen merchandise.....I'd ask to see the original sales recipet....

Or the seller has one of those nasty chemical habits he needs to feed.....

Or the poor bastard lost his job and needs to sell his stuff fast to pay the bills......

Or there's something wrong with the radio that would require an expensive repair.......

Could be a lot of reasons why someone would be selling a highly valueable tranceiver for a fraction of it's original cost.......

It does seem like a too-good-to-be-true price......but hey

Keep asking questions. Ask him why he's selling so cheap. He may simply have it priced low to sell fast. Asking top dollar for stuff right now sees a lot of stuff sitting around not selling. We see that right here on this forum. The guy could have lost his job as MIG said.

When I got laid off at the end of March I sold my Icom 746 right away. They had been frequently fetching up to $850. I started it at $499 and only got $675 on ebay.

Also may want to ask if he'll let you bring it back within 3 days or so. Need full opportunity to check it out & make sure everything works as should.

Good luck

$650 is easily less than half what that radio is worth...it's a steal. Though there are some major components that if they die, they are not repairable.

For $650 you could likely part that radio on ebay and still make money though.

none of that....lol he is not a crack head... He got alot of radio stuff from dead hams... i played with the radio it works 100% i am buy'n a collins receiver form him too $200.00 ..He just likes the sound of my radio but he wants to get me out of the stoneages ...i dont know what that is all about...lol

As far as the mod goes...the guy that got me into ham radio had the basic 950 and all he done to bring up the general coverage (ie...11 meter transmit) was to push a button on the radio and hold(i forget what button it was) and turn off radio ,with button still pushed turn radio back on again....done,but this had to be done again after shutting it down as usual.....keep in mind he let me in on that over 10 years ago....it very well could have been an older model than the one that you are looking at

But $650 for that unit is a steal to say the least if it is in good shape

This kinda leads back to what I was talking about on my "Basement Treasures" thread on the amp forum.
I can't help to wonder how many really good, top of the line HF transceivers, and tube amps are sitting in storage, unused, and going to waste because they belonged to a now silent key, and their widow either doesn't know what they are worth, what exactly she's sitting on, or who to contact about selling it, and for how much.
I bet a lot of it ends up being given away, or sold at yard sale for a fraction of it's real value.
It always rubs me the wrong way when I see stuff like this on FleaBay, being sold by some radio pimp like Radio-Mart, claiming it is part of his personal shack that he no longer uses...(or some such bullshit)....and he's asking top dollar for it. And you just know he found it at a flea market or yard sale for less than a fraction of what he's asking, plus he has no real idea if it works or not......

I would love to stumble onto a yard sale with something like a TS-950 sitting there with a super low price tag attached, and right next to it an old Collins or Henry tube amp.....my luck I won't have any money in my pocket....

yea i gess the guy had a henrey henry 2k that he sold for $400.00 he had a few other amps that he got... This guy can Sniff a Dead Ham out for a 100 miles... Him and his buddy put there money together and buy the heck out Dead Hams.... i dont know if his got the Dead Ham's Almanac or what but i would like to go to the source

Man a 2k-2 can run full duty cycle all day long too, those things are seriously built. Pretty much nothing out there now even comes close to the Henry console construction level. No matter what you pay.
