Yeah these misshaps can get costly so just be careful with it and as said if your adjusting VR-6 to the point of nocarrier then your on the right track SSB as stated is not like AM or FM theres no carrier SSB is audio driven and Ide keep that SSB drive power at 12 to 15 watts and that amp should run and sound pretty clean at that power input level.
