Hi everyone, I smoked L39, the .47uH inductor near the finals in one of my PC409 Grants.
I'm sure someone else may have been, or will be in this situation.
Without any HG 2SC1969, or similar for replacements onhand, I installed the IRF520 and related components.
I have a few others that I've done this to with great results, but being color blind (and possibly dyslexic ), I chose a 5.6k instead of the 56k ohm resistor for bias, creating the toasty scent of electro incense when power was applied for testing.
There was a 10 amp fuse in the power cord from a stingerboard project I was working on earlier. If I had the correct fuse in the power cord none of this would have happened, It might have taken me a 3 amp fuse or two to realize something was wrong .
Either way l39 is cooked. It didn't go open circuit, but got hot enough to just color its windings and crack the internal ferrite. After putting the proper bias resistor in, the radio still works but leaves a funky spiked top that goes off the screen when my signal is viewed on a scope. (No pics, sorry).
I find all sorts of 470nH inductors online, but I'm not sure of what amperage rating I should look for.
I'm sure more than half of what I'm looking at is too low.
All of my "parts radios" end up getting repaired and used, instead of being dismantled for parts , what amperage range should I be looking in?
