so I picked up a uniden / bearcat BC906W wireless mic and started looking at some of the other radio's that use uniden and the new president version of the BC906W mic, looking at some of the president 6 pin radio's and they match the magnum 6 pin wiring,, so I plugged in the uniden BC906W to the magnum 257hp. the mic and speaker of the radio had a very loud feedback noise(varied with the mic gain on the radio) but did function sort of, ya!
so now to find out why,, its so close to working correctly,, I pulled the BC906W apart to see how it was wired and one thing that looked odd was at the mic plug pin 1 (audio) had the center wire of the shielded wire and the shield both soldered to pin 1, I removed both of them from pin 1 and the noise stopped, I soldered just the center wire from the shielded audio wire to pin one and re-tested,, mic works great!!
so to recap if you want the BC906W to work on the magnum 257 radio's just take the mic plug apart and disconnect the shield from pin 1 (I just unsoldered it and folded it back and put a layer of tape over it and re-assembled the mic plug)
pin 1 audio and shield (remove shield braid from this pin)
pin 2 transmit
pin 3 receive
pin 4 -------
pin 5 ground
pin 6 b+
been playing with the mic for the last hour or so, it has some good distance, I can cover my front and back yard without losing signal to the mic/speaker
got the mic from a guy on ebay selling them for $79 shipped, cheapest I have found them.
