I have seen where the S series radio's are being discontinued, this would be the S-3,S-6, and S-9 variants. New models are due out in early 2012. The 257HP and the Omega S45 HP are also getting CPU updates so they will reach up to 12m. Can't wait to see what they bring out next. It's a Magnum RCI world now no doubt.

if they can keep all the 45HPs current quality and just add 12 meters that will be sweet . :D
also with the 45HP being better and cheaper than the s-9 and s-980 why keep them around ?

the S-series radios are almost 12 years old.......of course their technology is double that age. they NEED to go away. hopefully, they not only update the cpu-controlled radios to cover 12m-BEFORE the sunspot cycle passes-but overall performance of them as well.
if only rci/ranger would do the same. but if fools keep buying the THINGS they market.....

When I read this post in different fourms too I pulled the trigger and bought a new one from H&Y, great price, untouched, got here working great not like the last one I bought from GI Joes with their 30 dollar hack job, sad to say I got feeling that the S9 was not what I had read but after buying one untouched now I know how good they can be, Glad I did, best hearing radio in my shack.

to my best of knowledge the 175 only works on front mic jack radios
like the s 3,6,9 series radios.the omega uses dual side mic jacks
plus in cbradiomagizines review of the s-9 -175 the rf power on ssb
was not changable. only worked on am/fm .i didnt like that

OK I agree and disagree a little, they do make the 175 in different versions with the cutouts for mic jacks, I've been an auto mechanic since the late 60 so for me to cut a half round circle in the metal cover is no big deal, and yes on SSB it is adjustable just turning down your mic gain, no biggie and to have a radio with that much more power for like 120 dollars, is a steal

Hello gentlemen and Ladies. I have the dreaded RCI-2990 receive issue where my radio gets distorted when people get close to my location. I found the C90 Capacitor, but I can not for the life of me find the C89 capacitor. Can or does anyone have a picture of the exact location of C89 ? Thank you in advance, Wes
