There are two versions of a Kenwood TS-480. One has a tuner, SAT and 100 watts, the other does 200 watts, HX and no tuner. Both are nice radios.
I've noticed that the 'HX' version seems to be more 'desired' than the 'SAT' version. Because of the higher output, and "everybody knows tuners are no good", right? Yeah, right.
It seems lately that owners of the 'HX' version are really bent out of shape because the meter in the '480 doesn't do Pep, only average power. They find it odd that on CW and FM the meter reads that full 200 watts output, but not on SSB. They typically want to know how to 'fix' it, cuz it's gotta be broke, right?
I wonder what all that's about? What's the preoccupation with Pep and RMS or averaging meters? It's one of the easiest conversions there is, most of the time is doesn't even require a calculator.
